Moving a few things around

At around 0000GMT on 16/12/2009, we'll be moving some servers around which will ultimately improve the stability and reliability of the network (more distributed hub system, basically). This is also going to involve switching out the ircd on each server, so you'll have to reconnect to the network to avoid being killed as we move the remaining leaves.

The simplest way of going about this is just reconnecting to irc.anonnet.org by typing "/server irc.anonnet.org" (sans quotes) at 0000GMT. If you're using WebIRC/mibbit, a refresh of the page should do. However, things usually tend to go wrong somewhere, so if you find yourself stuck on the old network, you should probably blame your ISP for not propagating DNS changes quickly enough. If this happens, try connecting to either slut.anonnet.org, ate.anonnet.org or rick.anonnet.org, which have already been migrated to the new system. It should be OK for you to reconnect to the normal address in a few hours if this is the case. We'll try to keep the services database as recent as possible, but if you've registered your nick in the couple of minutes before the migration, you might have to redo it.

As always, if you have any problems, /join #help, or ask on the forum.

asdfghjkl

In order to improve reliability and reduce future netsplits, we'll be simultaneously restructuring the network and upgrading servers tonight. You will therefore experience some downtime while this is taking place - just reconnect to irc.anonnet.org if you lose your connection, or refresh the page if you're using webirc.

The restructuring will be taking place at 16:00 UTC (17:00 BST, around 45 minutes from now), and shouldn't take more than a few minutes.

It has come to our attention that the oper [s]gang[/s] crew have been acting like cocks lately, and that's impacted upon the success of the network to quite a large degree. To put it simply, we're sorry. AnonNET was originally started due to abuse on a different network, and so we obviously want to avoid going the same way. If you see anything you consider to be abuse, post it on the forum (you can remain anonymous if you so wish), or /msg another oper. We want to get this sorted out before it causes any more problems.

On the upside, we're currently developing some new features, so every channel will be able to have their own wiki and/or forum hosted directly on anonnet.org. This might take a while to sort out though, so bear with us.

Thank you for your continued support.
~asdfghjkl

We have finished restructuring the network, sorry for the 15 minutes of instability.

But on the upside, we now have a shiny new hub - which should improve connectivity and reduce downtime to practically 0, as we are currently in the proccess of setting up a backup hub which will automatically relink servers should the main hub fail.

Following a good few weeks of satisfactory stability, we've had a couple of outages today. The box that hosts freshprince.anonnet.hub has been under attack, so servers under that hub are currently split. If this continues for much longer we'll route around it, but at the moment we're waiting to see if it subsides. We were also affected by a brief awknet outage, which appears to be back to normal now.
